2nd Annual Hawaii Contest Recap

That’s a wrap! The 2nd Annual Honolulu Lemonade Alley competition took place on July 8, 2012 to the theme of “A Yellow Carpet Event.” The film was rolling and camera flashes were dazzling as this year’s contestants pitched their ideas to local celebrity judges. Teams of kids ages kindergarten through high school lined the yellow carpet with elaborate booth designs, delicious lemonade recipes, creative business pitches and cool charities that their lemonade sales benefitted. Over $4000 was donated to charities around Oahu from these smart kid-preneurs! Charities included: Make A Wish Foundation, Wounded Warriors Project, Hawaii Humane Society, Institute for Human Services and BizGym Foundation.

Live entertainment kept the party going all day long. The morning kicked off with 10-year-old ukulele sensation Aidan James singing the National Anthem and playing a set of pop favorites. Kid rock bands EMKE, Logix Sold Separately and Chaotic Five wowed the crowd with impressive renditions of rock and roll classics and Top 40 hits. The Honolulu Broadway babies sang their hearts out, and several lovely young ladies hula danced their way down the yellow carpet, including Miss Hawaii!

The winning teams in each age division were selected based on five judging criteria – Business Plan, 1-minute Business Pitch, Booth Design, Taste Test, Sales/Donation to Charity. Winning teams were awarded $1000 cash. Special awards were also given out by other sponsors including: “Most Facebook Likes” (awarded by LeiHut.com,) “Best Business Plan” (awarded by BizGym.com,) “Best Healthy Recipe” (awarded by Junior League of Honolulu,) “Most Rockin’ Award” (awarded by Honolulu Hard Rock Cafe,) and “Coolest of the Cool Award” and “Most Aloha Spirit Award” (awarded by Uncle Clay’s House of Pure Aloha.)
